Traveling to Warnemünde from Hamburg

Traveling from Hamburg Airport

Most International flights into Germany will go to Hamburg Airport (HAM). Hamburg Airport is less than 200 km from Warnemünde.

Train

To travel from Hamburg Airport to Warnemünde, take the S-Bahn (subway) line S1 located in the basement of the airport terminal to Hamburg's central railway station (Hauptbahnhof). This train operates every 10 minutes and takes approximately 25 minutes.

From Hamburg Central Station take the IC or RE-Connection to Rostock. These trains depart roughly every hour. IC is slightly faster, just under 2 hours, whereby in the RE you can sit in the second floor and enjoy more of the landscape. If you pay close attention you will notice when you pass the former border. Please make sure to book your ticket from Hamburg to Rostock-Warnemünde. This way you do not have to buy another ticket in Rostock.

In Rostock you will need to change trains one final time. The S-Bahn to Warnemünde leaves from platform 1 or 2 and and operates every 15 minutes and takes 20 minutes.

To book trains you can go to the German Rail Homepage www.bahn.de.

Shuttle service

In general the shuttle service offers shorter journey times but is more expensive than the train service. The company is located in Rostock and will pick you up directly from the airport terminal and drive you to your final destination.

Prices range between 139 € (1 person) and 59 € (shared) per person, group fees can be negotiated.

Traveling within Warnemünde to the Symposium Venue

Map of Warnemünde

On arrival in Warnemünde you will need to travel to either your hotel or to the Yachthafenresidenz Hohe Düne where the symposium is taking place and where accommodation has been booked for some delegates. The easiest way to travel to both destinations from the train station is by foot.
In order to reach the symposium venue you will need to take a passenger ferry across the Warnow River. The ferry goes every 20 minutes and is 1,20 € per person. To reach the ferry you have to go through a small pedestrian tunnel in the Warnemünde railway station that takes you right to the river banks. Turn right and walk about 100 meters to reach the ferry terminal.

The hotel complex you see on the other side of the Warnow River is the Yachthafenresidenz Hohe Düne where the symposium takes place. The conference building is located at the base of the mole.
